Multiple Skills for the 21st Century by Jim Rohn

I find it’s important to not walk into the beginning part of this 21st Century without multiple skills. But what I also find is that if you are already in sales, network marketing or have an entrepreneurial business (or plan to in the future), you can gain the needed skills for the future while you create your income now.

Here’s my short list for on the job training, so that you can learn while you earn.

1) SALES

I began my journey with sales, which of course dynamically changed my life back at age 25. The first year I multiplied my income by five. I was raised in farm country. I knew how to milk cows, but it didn’t pay well. But sales altered the course of my life, learning to present a valid product in the marketplace, talk about its virtues and get somebody to say “yes.” And then give them good service.

2) RECRUITING

Then came recruiting, how to expand my business, build an organization. We have all heard the question, is it better to have one person selling a $1000 or have 100 people selling $10? If you ask me, I’ll take the 100 at $10. Recruiting, the ability to multiply your efforts, once mastered, is one of life and leadership’s greatest time management resources.

3) ORGANIZING

Then I learned organizing. Keeping your own schedule can be difficult at times, but now you have to balance multiple tasks and people to get maximum results. But you will find that the payoff is massive once you have tapped into the synergy and momentum of group dynamics and teamwork.

4) PROMOTION

Next is promotion. First it’s the spring campaign and then the fall campaign, and then it’s this month’s objective’s campaign. You never know when it’s going to click for someone to want or need to buy from you or be a part of what you are doing, so having the offer or the special or the contest going when they’re ready can make all the difference.

5) RECOGNITION

Then it’s the recognition. Some people work harder for recognition than they do for money. It’s the chance to belong. Getting people to do something that ordinarily on their own, they wouldn’t think of doing. They could, but they don’t think of it. You come along with a little promotion for this month or this quarter and everything changes for them, and I found that paid big money.

6) COMMUNICATION

Then I learned communication. How to do the training, how to do the teaching, and probably the greatest gift of all is learning how to inspire with words. Inspire people to see themselves better than they are; all of those gifts, all of those skills. Being the voice that tells them they have made a wise decision and here’s why.

Now, I believe that as you walk into this century with just that little short list I’ve given you, you’ll be equipped. We’ve all watched what has happened the last 15 years. The guy had one skill – the company downsizes. His division is eliminated and since he only had one skill, now he is vulnerable. He’s wandering around saying, “Oh my, the last few years I should have taken some classes that would have taught me a couple of more things and I wouldn’t be here in this vulnerable position.”

So my admonition — learn some multiple skills, or should we say, back-up skills for the 21st Century and no better place to learn them than in what you’re already doing now.

Establishing Dreams and Goals by Jim Rohn

Tags: ,

One of the amazing things we have been given as humans is the unquenchable desire to have dreams of a better life, and the ability to establish goals to live out those dreams. Think of it: We can look deep within our hearts and dream of a better situation for ourselves and our families; dream of better financial lives and better emotional or physical lives; certainly dream of better spiritual lives. But what makes this even more powerful is that we have also been given the ability to not only dream but to pursue those dreams and not only to pursue them, but the cognitive ability to actually lay out a plan and strategies (setting goals) to achieve those dreams. Powerful! And that is what we will discuss in detail this week: How to dream dreams and establish goals to get those dreams.

What are your dreams and goals? This isn’t what you already have or what you have done, but what you want. Have you ever really sat down and thought through your life values and decided what you really want? Have you ever taken the time to truly reflect, to listen quietly to your heart, to see what dreams live within you? Your dreams are there. Everyone has them. They may live right on the surface, or they may be buried deep from years of others telling you they were foolish, but they are there.

So how do we know what our dreams are? This is an interesting process and it relates primarily to the art of listening. This is not listening to others; it is listening to yourself. If we listen to others, we hear their plans and dreams (and many will try to put their plans and dreams on us). If we listen to others, we can never be fulfilled. We will only chase elusive dreams that are not rooted deep within us. No, we must listen to our own hearts.

Let’s take a look at some practical steps/thoughts on hearing from our hearts on what our dreams are:

Take time to be quiet. This is something that we don’t do enough in this busy world of ours. We rush, rush, rush, and we are constantly listening to noise all around us. The human heart was meant for times of quiet, to peer deep within. It is when we do this that our hearts are set free to soar and take flight on the wings of our own dreams! Schedule some quiet “dream time” this week. No other people. No cell phone. No computer. Just you, a pad, a pen, and your thoughts (you get to do this in the workbook exercises this week).

Think about what really thrills you. When you are quiet, think about those things that really get your blood moving. What would you LOVE to do, either for fun or for a living? What would you love to accomplish? What would you try if you were guaranteed to succeed? What big thoughts move your heart into a state of excitement and joy? When you answer these questions you will feel Great and you will be in the “dream zone.” It is only when we get to this point that we experience what Our dreams are!

Write down all of your dreams as you have them. Don’t think of any as too outlandish or foolish – remember, you’re dreaming! Let the thoughts fly and take careful record.

Now, prioritize those dreams. Which are most important? Which are most feasible? Which would you love to do the most? Put them in the order in which you will actually try to attain them. Remember, we are always moving toward action, not just dreaming.

Here is the big picture: Life is too short to not pursue your dreams. Someday your life will near its end and all you will be able to do is look backwards. You can reflect with joy or regret. Those who dream, who set goals and act on them to live out their dreams are those who live lives of joy and have a sense of peace when they near the end of their lives. They have finished well, for themselves and for their families.

Remember: These are the dreams and goals that are born out of your heart and mind. These are the goals that are unique to you and come from who you were created to be and gifted to become. Your specific goals are what you want to attain because they are what will make your life joyful and bring your family’s life into congruence with what you want it to be.

Until next week, let’s do something remarkable!

Create Buzz for Your Website with a Podcast

A good podcast creates buzz. When your RSS subscribers constantly get new information that improves their lives, and they receive that information in a variety of formats, they start talking to their friends. Then their friends subscribe to your RSS feed and tell their friends. And so on.

To make cycle work for you, you have to constantly “feed” your subscribers content in print, audio and video formats. The more varied your content formats, the quicker your subscription list will grow.

For example, if you run a fitness blog, you can post a “fit tip of the day” in print format, a weekly workout in video format and a monthly expert interview in audio format. Then every time you post a podcast, your RSS subscribers automatically receive and download the latest post.

Another thing an RSS feed does for you is provide credibility. It implies you offer valuable information worth hearing and watching, and that the information is valuable enough to constantly check back for more.

Plus it provides an additional way for you to establish yourself as an expert.

Keep in mind that although you don’t need a blog to use an RSS feed for your podcast, you will need to have some programming experience or hire a programmer to set it up for you. However, RSS feeds are a standard feature of most blog hosting companies such as WordPress.

By using a blog, you should also be able to track how many people are subscribed to your RSS feed. And if you want enhanced tracking features, you can subscribe to Feedburner.com, a service large publications like CNN use for their RSS feeds.

One more thing you need to know about RSS feeds is that they allow you to add your podcast to the iTunes store for free.

The iTunes store is a high-traffic site that sells downloads to digital music, television shows, iPod games, music videos, movies and audio books. The store also offers free subscriptions to any podcast in their vast Podcast Directory.

The only restriction is that users need the iTunes program on their computer in order to subscribe to any of the free podcasts. Still, it’s not much of a restriction because Apple offers iTunes, a digital media player that plays audio and video files, as a free download on their website.

The program comes with built-in support for podcasting, thus permitting users to subscribe to podcasts in the iTunes store or by entering the RSS feed URL. Then every time they open their iTunes program, they can listen to or watch the latest podcasts that have been downloaded to their iTunes library for them

How To Grab Your Readers Attention With Your Subject

The race for supremacy in the internet based businesses has been really heating up and many sites have been put up to help others to get ahead for a small fee. But there are also ways in which you don’t have to pay so much to make yourself a good list of loyal followers. Having a satisfied web traffic and visitors allows you to put up a foundation wherein you can build an opt-in list and make it grow from there.

An opt-in list allows you to provide newsletters to your subscribers with their consent. When people sign up, they know that they will be receiving updates and news from your site and the industry your represent via an e-mail. But that doesn’t mean that all of those who subscribe read them at all.  Many lists have been built due to an attachment with free software or for a promotional discount and such. Some are not really interested in receiving e-mails from companies and just treat them as waste of cyberspace and delete or trash them without so mush as opening the e-mail and scanning them.

You can change all that. While forwarding an email message is relatively after producing your newsletter. Getting people to open them is not as easy. You don’t want to waste all the time and effort used in making the newsletters, you want people to read them and have their interests piqued. Interested enough to go to your website and look around and most especially purchased and acquire your products or services.

One of the numerous ways you can tempt or persuade your subscriber is by providing a well thought out and well written subject. The subject of an email is what is often referred to when a person or a recipient of an email decides whether he or she wants to open or read an e-mail. The subject could easily be regarded as one of the most important aspect of your  promotional e-mail.

Your subject must be short and concise. They should provide a summary for the content of the e-mail so that the recipient will have basic knowledge of the content. This is really vital in grabbing the attention of your readers and subscribers. You want your subject to instantly grab the attention of your subscriber and get them to be intrigued to open up your mail. Remember, it is not necessarily true that a subscriber opens up subscribed mails.

A good subject must always be tickling the curiosity of your recipient. It must literally force the recipient to open the mail. A certain emotion must be ignited and get them to open the mail. It is essential to use specific words to get the reaction you need. Keep in mind that the recipient or subscribers spends only a few seconds looking over each subject of the e-mails he receives. You must grab your reader’s attention right away.

There are many forms you can use for your subject. You can provide a subject that says your e-mail contains content that teaches them tips and methods on certain topics. An example of this is using keywords and keyword phrases such as, “How to” , “tips”, “Guides to”, Methods in and others like that.

You can also put your subject in a question form. These may include questions like, “Are you sick and tired of your job?” Or “Is your boss always on your case?” Try to stay on the topic that pertains to your site so that you’ll know that your subscribers have signed up because they are interested in that topic.  This form of subject is very effective because they reach out to your recipients emotions. When they have read the question on your subject, their mind starts answering the question already.

You can also use a subject that commands your reader. Statements such as “Act now and get this once in a lifetime opportunity”, or “Double, triple and even quadruple what you are earning in one year”. This type of subject deals with the benefits  your company provides with your product and services.

You may also use breaking news as your subject to intrigue your subscriber. For example, if you deal with car engine parts you can write in your subject, “Announcing the new engine that uses no gasoline, It runs on water”. This creates curiosity with the reader and will lead them to open the mail and read on.http://tinyurl.com/6o3654

How to Effortlessly Attract More Customers

If you wanted to buy the best quality coffee, would you go to Starbucks or McDonald’s?

Both sell coffee, but which one should be the best?

That’s right.  Starbucks.  Because coffee is their area of expertise.  It’s who they are.  It’s what they do.  It’s all they sell.

They have positioned themselves as coffee experts, so people are willing to pay Starbucks more money for coffee than they are willing to pay McDonald’s.

But why should you care about the cost of a cup of coffee?

You shouldn’t…unless you want to learn how to make more money with less effort.

In a world where 300,000 books are published each year and one simple keyword search gives you more than 1,000,000 sites to choose from, it’s safe to say that information is not a scarce commodity.

The truth is that people are bombarded with too much information everyday, especially on the Internet.

The Internet makes providing information to your customers easy.  All you have to do is put up a website.  The only problem is that it is just as easy for your competitors to put up a website with the same information.

In other words, you are fighting with hundreds (or perhaps thousands) of other people for the attention of the same customers.

The real problem is that your customers only have a limited amount of attention to give to the abundance of information available to them.

So they skip from site to site as fast as possible in hopes of visiting as many sites as possible.

During this frantic search, they don’t know how to decide whom to trust to provide the best and most accurate information.

So your job is to grab their attention and help them trust YOU.

The simple way to do just that is to become an expert.

People pay attention to you when you demonstrate that you have specific knowledge in a specific area.

Did you know that FedEx lost nearly 30 million dollars in its first two years of business?

People didn’t pay attention to them because they tried to be great in three areas of service:  overnight, 2-day and 3-day delivery.

But when they refined their focus and positioned themselves as experts in overnight delivery, they captured the attention of people who “absolutely, positively” needed a package delivered overnight.

FedEx is not the only company who has succeeded by becoming experts.  What businesses capture your attention when you want:

  • Office supplies?
  • Towels?
  • Shoes?
  • Pizza?
  • Tools?
  • Electronics?
  • Doughnuts?

The more specific and focused you are, the greater your chances of success in business.

How to Create a Traffic Hub with Your Blog

Why blog?

A blog isn’t a money-making site, so why not send traffic directly to your squeeze pages, sales pages or affiliate sites?  Why send your traffic on a detour through a blog?  Because it’s not a detour!

Think of your blog as a hub for your online traffic.  Just as airlines have hubs in major cities to expedite their flight traffic, you need a hub on the Internet to expedite your online traffic.

A blog is perfect for your “hub” because it’s the easiest type of site to drive traffic to.  And if you have it set up the right way, you can direct this influx of traffic to the sites designed to put cash in your pocket.

Before you can create this hub, though, you need to know what a blog is.  Put simply, it’s a website with unique formatting software.  Thanks to this software, anyone can create and maintain a blog.  Even people with zero technical knowledge.  Which is why nearly 80 million blogs are in existence today.

Five major elements distinguish a blog from other types of websites.  These elements are:

  1. Time-stamped entries.  Every time you add content to your blog, the date and time are automatically added as well.
  2. Entries posted in reverse chronological order.  Your most recent post is always listed first.
  3. Archives.  All your posts are eventually saved in the archives in an easy-to-search format for your readers.
  4. Comments from readers.  Most blogs are interactive and thus allow readers to post their comments to your entries.
  5. Bio of blogger.  This is an important feature because it personalizes the blog.  When readers meet the person behind the words, they are more likely to trust you, visit your blog often and tell others about you.

Blogging brings the power of the press to you by allowing you to easily publish your ideas.  Millions of people can then read and respond.  In essence, blogs create open conversations between you and your audience.

Although some people use blogs as an online diary, this is not the type of blog you want to create.  When you only write about the everyday events in your life, you’re only writing for you.  In other words, you won’t generate much traffic.

The kind of blog you want is a viral blog.  Although you can and should share some personal anecdotes to personalize the site, you want to focus on posting content related to your niche.
The goal is to be both personal and influential.  When you create such a balance, people start talking and spreading the news about your blog like a virus across the Internet.

When news about you is spreading like a virus, traffic comes to you.

How To Build A List Of Eager Subscribers

Every online business provides great service to generate satisfaction among their customers. As each and every customer receives satisfaction over their products or the services they get, there is a great chance that they will become a return customer and buy again. Better yet, they will recommend you to other people that could generate more business for you and your site.

As more traffic is driven to your site, you can entice many of them to subscribe to your mailing list or opt-in list. This is a list where in website visitors agree to be sent promotional materials such as newsletters, catalogs and such that could keep them updated about your site or the niche of your site. These promotional materials are sent via e-mail to the members of the list in different time intervals.

When using e-mail as the media of your marketing and advertisements, you eliminate the need for high costs. Email is free and if you can manage to make your own promotional advertisements you can also save a bundle there. With an opt-in subscribers list, you are pretty sure that what you are sending out is received, viewed and read by the subscribers and not simply being deleted. They have signed up for service and have consented in receiving it.

This means that there are constant reminders to your subscribers about all your products, new products and services as well as any promotions and special deals you are having. There is also the chance that they can be forwarded to other potential customers as they tell their friends and families about you and your site.

Of course you should be also aware that a subscriber may unsubscribe when they feel that they are not getting what they want or expected. Make sure that they are satisfied with your opt-in marketing strategies and keep them excited in receiving your newsletters and catalogs. Here are some tips that can help you build a list of eager subscribers.

Make your promotional materials interesting and fun. Try to use a little creativity but not too over artsy. Build around what your product or service is about. For example; if you are selling car parts, put some pictures of what is new in the auto parts world, a new wing door possibly that can fit any car and make it look like a Lamborghini.

Try to research what people are looking for, these way, you stay one step ahead of them all the time and you will be their bearer of new tidings. They will be eager to receive what you are sending them because they new you always have fresh and new things to share with them.

Write good articles that can be very informational but light at the same time. If your subscribers enjoy your articles, they will go to your site by clicking the links that you will be putting on your newsletter to read some more. You can provide articles that can connect to many people. Be diverse in your articles. Put something humorous, then put something informational, then put something that has both.

Are you wary about this because you don’t like writing? No problem, there are many professional and experienced article writers that can do the job for you for minimal fees. They know what they are doing and can provide the need that you have for your newsletters, the money that you pay for your articles are going to be met by the many sign-ups and the potential profit from the sales that you will get.

Create and send an E-book to your customers about anything that is related to your business or site. Use your knowledge and expertise in the field you have chosen to help other people who are similarly interested. Offer this e-book for free. You can write about anything informational and helpful to your subscribers. For example; you can do manuals and guides in so many things. This e-book could be used as a reference for many people.

Share this e-book with everyone, even other sites; just make sure that they don’t change the links in the e-book that will lead people to your site. If you want, you can always get some people to write it for you just like your articles. Your investment once again will be covered by the great marketing this will generate.

Add e-coupons in your newsletters that will help them avail to special discounts. Put a control number in your e-coupon so that they can only be used once. When people get discounts that can be found in your newsletters, they will be eager to receive your newsletter in anticipation of what you are promoting next.

If your subscribers can get benefits from your newsletters, they will be very eager to receive them. Just don’t flood your mailing list with mails so that you don’t annoy your subscribers.
